Vote for MomDot/Trisha

Author: trisha  //  Category: Random Crap

It appears I have been nominated for the Hot Bloggers Calender. *snort*

I think im hot…most days. Except the 6.5 days out of the week I sit in my jogging pants here at the computer…but damn, that other half a day, I could pass for a cute mom. You know the irony in this, was that I was so not a cute high schooler. My DH told me I was an ugly duckling..I eventually came into my own. Supportive, huh. LOL! But really, something about being 30 makes me be “alright” with myself-flaws and all!!

(OMG, do I have some big Southern Girl Hair or WHAT?)

But what I think would be really fun is to meet other hottie mommies, so please extend your vote for me if you would~ While we are at it…brown or blonde hair? I really have to make up my mind because I have roots…(for both), right now. Which is a talent, I might add.

Scroll to the bottom, I am almost all the way down and it says Trisha (momdot).I would really appreciate it. The blogger that is running this, was one of the very first bloggers that ever supported Bambina Ballerina for me back when I was a new business online, and well, well before I was a blogger. I would love to meet her and give her a hug.

Other reasons you should vote for me:

1) I need a vacation. I mean, really badly. In fact, I would sell my soul to go away for a day.

2) I represent ALL bloggers…they interview me, I am going to talk about YOU! Our site doesnt exist without you all and that really should be brought out. I think MomDot is the only blogger site in the nominations that shares space with ALL bloggers and promotes them…We need representation! If we win, and our name is out there, that means others can see YOUR listings HERE. Its WIN/WIN!

3) I have big hair. Its awesome. What Can i say? I could pretend I was Cindy Crawford in a photoshoot. Pretend being the operative word.

4) I DO need a makeover. You think they would give me one? *stares at yoga pants*

5) MomDot brought this VERY important issue to light

6) I would take lots of crazy photos of all bloggers involved and make sure they make our front page for your viewing pleasure.

And If I win, I promise to promote WORLD PEACE!

Cleaning Out The Freezer

Author: Tina  //  Category: Talking with Tina

Since I didn’t have much to do this morning and seeing how I had some chicken that needed to be squeezed into the freezer, I decided that now may be the time to clean it out and go through what is in there.

While I was doing this, I started asking myself “why did I keep this in here for so long?” or “I completely forgot this was in here”. So why do we hang on to that frozen meal that has been hanging out in the freezer FOREVER, to the point it is now pushed completely in the back? Or why do we keep those two sad little pork chops, covered in icy fur? Consciously we know the stuff probably has that horrible freezer burn taste, yet we keep our “old friends” in there, not wanting to throw it out and say “you’re replaced”, lol.

I know, I know, it’s just food in a freezer. Now that I think about it, maybe we should all “clean out the freezer” in other aspects once in awhile. Go through the things that we no longer need or are no longer good for us, and replace it with items that will be able to nourish your body and soul.

The Banana Splits…no, not what you eat!

bananasplits.jpg

Starting Sept 2nd, The Banana Splits, a hugely popular group from the 1960’s are back in full Banana Blast! Way back (think your parents age-my dad would not be proud I said that), a costumed rock band came forth with Fleegle, Drooper, Bingo, and Snorky who hang out in their Banana Pad while telling jokes and making great music that kids can sing along too.

Today’s music on the radio is nothing like the bopping sweet sounds of the 50’s and 60’s and can now be filled with large sexual innuendos, violence, drugs, and suicidal thoughts. I know that as a parent, I am constantly flipping and flipping to find music suitable for my 3.5 year old daughter.

When The Banana Splits sent us one of their limited edition Tshirts for Charlotte, ill just say that Charlotte was jumping up and down and went and changed her shirt RIGHT THEN. She didn’t even know who they were yet, but she was down with the idea pretty quickly. She also took the poster and it found a proud spot in her playroom on the closet door. One thing kids are good at is spotting what they like and her reaction is a good indication that she took to the safe music, website, and image of The Banana Splits.

I do believe that when their official launch and show hits the Cartoon Network, its one to flip to and give a chance for your kids, giving them a whole new generation of safe and fun music to enjoy and bop their little butts to!

Easy Banana Bread Recipe

Author: Tina  //  Category: Talking with Tina

Who doesn’t love the smell of their house while banana bread is baking? Who doesn’t enjoy baking when you have a toddler pulling on your pant legs and wanting to be picked up where you suddenly have no extra hands to do anything?

This recipe is easy to make, has only a few everyday ingredients, and is a recipe that your toddler can help with, every step of the way (and will try to eat the whole thing after it’s done :) )

Banana Bread

4 large, ripe bananas

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups flour (you can substitute 1 cup of whole wheat flour if you’d like)

1/2 cup melted butter or margarine

2 eggs

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix in order given and put into a large loaf pan. Bake at 350′ for 50 minutes.

I typically just use a wire whisk and a bowl to mix this in. It works great, and you can give your little one their own whisk to help along.

Homemade Facials

Author: Tina  //  Category: Talking with Tina

The Kiddie Clique is going to try to give our readers a weekly tip or recipe on how you can escape the every day chaos from life. This week we are featuring homemade facials. If you have your own recipe you’d like to submit, feel free! We’d all love new recipes!

Wanted: clean, soft, fresh feeling after having an expensive spa facial.

Solution: all-natural homemade facials at a fraction of the cost.

Best of all, with these recipes, you can have that great feeling you want from a spa facial on any budget, any time.

 Oatmeal Face Cleanser

3 tablespoons oatmeal
2 teaspoons witch hazel
And a few drops of water

You want to dampen the oatmeal first then add the witch hazel. Then add the water to make it moist. Apply to your face with an upward and outward circuler motion. Rinse with lots of warm water. This recipe is good for all kinds of skin. If you have dry skin add a little oil. You can also add a mashed bannana for more nourishment.

  Yogurt Face Mask

1 tsp. natural yogurt (not non-fat or lowfat)
1 tsp. runny honey (heat up hard honey to smooth up)

Mix together apply to the face let it set for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm soft water.

Author: Tina  //  Category: Talking with Tina

Breastfeeding week is this week, August 1 to August 7, 2008.

I may not have breastfed my daughter, but I support those mommas that do.

Here’s some information and statistics on breastfeeding from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/

Vaccines-for them or against them?

Author: Tina  //  Category: Controversial Parenting, Talking with Tina

To answer my own question, I am definitely for vaccines. They help prevent many diseases that could make your child extremely ill or even in severe cases, cause premature death. If vaccines help society why are there people, enrolling their children in daycare and school, who do not want to have their children vaccinated?

I understand that some people delay vaccines, to a certain extent, because their children may have been ill at the time they were supposed to receive their vaccines or their immune system was compromised. In these situations, I think it’s fine to delay them until your child is well. Otherwise, I believe there is a reason there is a schedule for vaccines and a time-line that children should receive them.

Other people argue they delay or simply don’t give their children vaccines due to a risk of Autism. To my knowledge, there are no peer reviewed scientific journalswhich link vaccines to a risk in autism. Sure, there are other articles, which their reliability can be questioned, that pose the question of a link between vaccines and autism. Looking for facts to support your side of an argument are easily found when you are looking for the answer you’re seeking.

I don’t want my child around other children who are not vaccinated. The vaccinated children are making it safer for the non-vaccinated children to go on with their daily lives. Imagine if more and more people did not vaccinate their children, think about the epidemic of infectious diseases that would be spread.

I understand as parents we do what we think is best for our children; however, when we do this it should not be the expense of other children and parents. If a child has a bottle or paci past age 1, no one is “harmed”.

The Great Green Debate

Author: Tina  //  Category: Controversial Parenting, Talking with Tina

To go green or not to go green, that is the question.

I always laugh a little when people debate whether or not we should go green. If being more ecofriendly is being pushed by some sort of conspiracy. What if it is a conspiracy? What does being a little more green and a little more ecofriendly hurt? Is it that people are off-put by the idea of doing something that they really didn’t want to and it turn out to be a lie? Oh no, I recycled, saved a few trees, and the Earth isn’t in as bad a shape as I was told. I don’t know, it’s just a debate that is silly to have.

Personally, I’m trying to be as ecofriendly as I possibly can at the moment. I have reusable grocery bags, I recycle, I even have started a sad little compost pile in the backyard. I try to buy organics, well veggies and fruits mostly, but sometimes buying organic is not in our budget. The US seems to be one of the only developed countries that is far behind as far as being ecofriendly is concerned. I remember as a kid walking through Germany, seeing places on the sidewalk to recycle your glass (different colors), paper, and even batteries. Also, as far as I can remember, you had to pay for your grocery bags if you wanted to use of the plastic store ones. Everyone just brought their own and was happy to do so, never thought twice about it.

So what is your view on this topic? Why do you think so many people are against going green?

High Heels For Babies?

Author: Tina  //  Category: Controversial Parenting, Talking with Tina

Chalk another fashion debate for babies. The people at Heelarious thought it would be a good idea to make heels for babies. When I say babies I mean 0-6 month olds. Now I’m fine with toddler shoes that have a tiny kitten heel, but why in the world does a 3 month old need a pair of pumps?

I guess the heels will match their super mini skirt and halter top they picked up earlier that day.
